Illustration Friday: Safari

Several years ago I did a small illustration of a girl showing her giraffe puppet to a giraffe at the zoo. I always liked the concept but never really liked the finished piece. When this week’s Illustration Friday topic came up I knew that I wanted to revisit the idea. This sweet little image is the result. I will be working on the background this afternoon and will update the image once I am done.

Personally, I feel I got a little heavy handed with the outlining on this one. I’m not sure whether it is a good thing or a bad thing yet.

As always… constructive criticism always appreciated!

Illustration Friday: Beginner (Sketch)

Ok… I know what you are thinking.
What does this little guy have to do with the word “Beginner”!?!

Well… I promise I AM going somewhere with the concept. I just haven’t gotten far enough into it for it to make any sense (anywhere but in my own imagination). Once I add in a couple more characters, an interesting setting and a few random objects you will understand. I PROMISE…

In the meantime… enjoy the sketch. I’d love to hear your feedback… or even your ideas about what he is going to “learn to do”!

Illustration Friday: Journey

As previously mentioned, my New Year’s resolution this year was to complete one illustration for every week of the year in 2011. I won’t give any excuses, but I fell a bit behind and I still plan to make good on all of  the weeks that I missed so far this year. To catch up, I plan to complete two illustrations per week for awhile… many of which will be based on the Illustration Friday prompts that I didn’t participate in. On April 15th, the word for the week was “Journey”.  I posted a spot illustration of this character that week with plans to rework the background but didn’t get around to it until this week.

I am much happier with this version of the illustration (when compared to the one I did 5 years ago). I’m not sure what kind of journey she is headed off on… but I’m sure it will be a fun little cruise. Click on the image for a larger version.

Enjoy! As always… constructive criticism always welcome and appreciated!!!
